Hot Fitess Model

Alana Hernandez

Fitness Model Interview:

Interview Questions:

1. What is your background? How did you get started in the fitness industry?

I got started in the Fitness Industry when I was 18 years old. I had just graduated from high school and I felt that my body started to look like a pear…so I needed SOMETHING! I started to work out at John Schleicher’s gym in Tampa, and he told me to do his yearly competition that he sponsors- the Tampa Bay Classic. So I did! I used to play softball for school a little bit, and had always been involved in street dancing, so the fitness part sounded really cool.

2. What do you feel is your biggest fitness-related accomplishment?

My biggest Fitness-related accomplishment would have to be shown through my clients. I have helped to make people’s lives a little bit better through health and nutrition and for me, seeing my clients happy about reaching their fitness goals is a very good feeling.

3. Is fitness modeling/competition your full-time job? If not, what else do you do?

My full time job is personal training. I do modeling and other fitness-related work on the side, for now. My plans are to turn professional in the IFBB.

4. What are your immediate and long-term goals?

My immediate goals of course surround my personal training business. I would love to have an established clientele base, now that I have moved to the gorgeous area of Pembroke Pines, FL. Also some immediate goals would go hand-in-hand with my fitness career- I would LOVE to have a full-time SPONSOR! Fitness is not an easy sport on the pocket - so costs are an issue. Long term goals would be setting an example for not only all women to be healthy, but especially Latin women who want to better themselves in all aspects of life- including living healthy. Showing my Latin sister’s and brother’s how to live a healthy and happy life is very important to me.

5. Please describe a typical day for you. What is your daily routine like?

A typical day for me? Ha! No day is typical for me! As far as nutrition- I make sure that my meals are pre-prepared for the following day, so that I do not have to rush to Mc D’s and get a Big Mac! I usually do cardio in the morning- between 30 and 45 minutes, and then I make sure I eat a BIG breakfast! I work at Fitness Quest- a gym- so my workouts would be in the middle of the day after my 3rd meal. Then, depending on what time I have my last client- I will either go to Blockbuster and rent-a-flick, or do another session of cardio. I’m giving you the gist of my regular daily routine-without dieting for a show. Because THAT my friend is TOTALLY different!

6. Please describe your normal diet. How do you eat to stay in shape?

The foods that I eat to stay in shape all year-round are pretty basic. Chicken, turkey, potatoes, rice, oatmeal, and plenty of protein shakes. I rarely go out to eat, and when I do-it’s usually a chicken Caesar salad. Sounds pretty simple and monotonous? Well, it is. The only thing that may change is the grams of carbohydrates that I consume on a daily basis, because I like to see what works for my body and what doesn’t. I drink at least a gallon of H2O a day. Sometimes I like to drink tea with lemon.

7. What is your training routine like?

My training changes everyday. I go on feel, and what body parts I think are lagging behind- I hit them first. I usually train legs on Monday to get them over with- then I’ll split my upper body- Chest and tri’s one day, back and bi’s another- and I LOVE To train shoulders, calves and abs together. Sometimes I do a 3-day on-2 day off, or sometimes I may work out 6-7 days a week and take 1 day off. It depends on how you feel, what type of training your doing, and what your goals are.

8. What supplements, if any, do you use?

For supplements, I would definitely have to say that I am an avid protein powder user! That is my number 1 choice! I also take a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement everyday. I am a pretty basic person, so I do not go over-board with 20 million different pills everyday.

9. How do you motivate yourself to get/stay in shape?

As far as motivation! I love to psyche myself out. I do not get energy from anything negative- in fact- I thrive to hear negative things, because it motivates me to be the opposite-POSITIVE! I have watched bodybuilding and fitness for almost 10 years, and every time I see a lady or gentlemen that has a beautiful physique that really shows- that motivates me to train hard..I have this picture in my head of what I can look like on stage, and that too motivates me. I like to look at women who have become pro’s already- bodybuilding or fitness, and know in my heart that I can do the same thing, if not better. I want to be the BEST as what I do. My motivation comes from my heart. It comes from ME trying to prove to MYSELF that I can look like the picture I have in my head.

10. What are a few of your favorite fitness and health-related web sites?

My favorite sites have to be of course- mine first: HELLANAHERNANDEZ.INFO - just because I like to see how it changes more and more each day, and also npcnewsonline.com - Trulyhuge.com is another favorite, along with femalefitnessmodel.com. I have a list of favorites that I like to visit everyday, and you can e-mail me for more of my fav. Picks at: hellanahernandez@hotmail.com.

11. What tips would you give to someone who wanted to get into the fitness modeling (or fitness competition) industry?

If you want to get into fitness modeling-think big! No one in this world is able to predict where you can be in 5 months or in 5 years- so go for it! You have to be hungry, and you have to be smart. Don’t sell yourself out. If you want to have a profession in the industry, then act professional. Now, if you want to be a fitness/figure competitor- try to talk to individuals who have done a couple of shows, so that they can give you some advice of who to go to for dieting, and any other thing you may need.

12. If someone you knew asked you how to lose weight and get into shape quickly, what would you tell them?

If someone asked me how to loose weight quickly and how? I would tell them to set up an appointment with me so that I can assess their fitness levels and to see what their fitness goals are and where they want them to be. Then, we would go through a workout so that we can interact with each other and see if we even like to work together. Then they have the option to hire me or not. Point blank, nice and simple.

13. What do you feel differentiates you from other people in your field?

The one thing that differentiates me from others in my field, is that I am here not only to help people learn about health, nutrition and their bodies, but I also want to learn in the process of how different people bodies are, and find out what works specifically for them. I also pride myself on being a great motivator, and also a good listener.

14. Is there anything else you'd like to say?

I would like to thank Paul at Trulyhuge.com for all of his help as well as Pablo Mills for deciding to help me win this year! I also want to encourage everyone to check out my website: HELLANAHERNANDEZ.INFO and to contact me with any questions. I am also available and open to any modeling assignments or suggestions. IF YOU LOVE FITNESS-NEVER GIVE UP! KEEP TRYING TO WIN, BABY!!
